Lauren grew up on the Gulf Coast of Florida, and has been learning from horses since she was six years old. Her first riding instructor instilled in her a profound love and respect for the horse, and created a solid foundation for her relationship with horses and training philosophies that sticks with her to this day. Lauren was a barn rat in her early childhood and teenage years and grew up learning everything she could about care, management, training, and how to always put the horse first.

Lauren started working in the industry early at twelve years old at a boarding stable cleaning stalls, turning out horses, and doing general barn chores. That job quickly evolved into grooming and riding for private owners. Over the next few years, Lauren amassed a clientele of horses that needed extra riding, grooming, and eventually, training. Lauren had the good fortune of riding many talented horses with impressive show records, and her riding education progressed significantly, even absent formal riding lessons. She was able to learn how a proper leg yield, collected canter, and gymnastic felt simply from hours in the saddle with these incredible teachers. She took the education she acquired from finished horses, and started passing it along as she expanded her services to include starting and training of young horses. By the time she was eighteen, Lauren had a full-time training business focusing on starting horses, riding young horses, and rehabilitating troubled horses.

After a cross country move to the San Francisco Bay Area and a few years hiatus from the horse industry, Lauren returned to horses and opened Demerara Stables in 2019. Lauren’s new focus on young horses, rehabilitation, and equine fitness is informed by her experience riding hundreds of horses from all walks of life. Her passion for solving horses that are puzzles - both physically and mentally - has brought her some unique challenges. Lauren has created a proven program for solving these challenges and taken horses that people had once written off, and returned them to sound, happy partners.

Lauren is constantly continuing her education by taking lessons, attending clinics, and attentively listening to, and learning from, every horse in her care.
